Check out this fun restaurant, Le Poulpe (Octopus), a “summer pop-up” on Leucate Beach on the Mediterranean!

Its owners spend a few weeks in May bringing to the beach everything needed for this excellent restaurant and setting it up. Its opening day this year was Friday, May 24, and I was fortunate enough to dine there on Sunday May 26! It closes in early fall.

The setting is absolutely gorgeous and the food is superb – incredibly fresh and excellent.

The day’s menu on a chalk board – our server brought it to our table.

Mary Ellen and I shared several fabulous dishes:

Shrimp with cherries
Anchovies
Seafood Croquettes
Aubergine (eggplant)
Le Poulpe (Octopus)
A mixed dessert

I went with Mary Ellen Clark, whom I met because she responded to my article in The Wall Street Journal. Her second home is in La Palme (first is in San Diego), about 15 minutes away from the restaurant, and about 1 hour from Carcassonne. I took the 30 minute train from Carcassonne to Narbonne, and Mary Ellen so generously picked me up and drove to the restaurant and then to her absolutely beautiful home. What a wonderful day!

Here are a few more photos of the restaurant:

Below: It doesn’t look like much as you’re walking to it, but wow, what a fabulous experience!
